Inheriting Hanford is a year old! We launched the project in April of 2011 and have been busy hosting happy hours, discussion groups, ice cream socials, forums, and getting more young people involved in the process.
We are happy to report that the Inheriting Hanford seed is bearing fruit. Mentorship community is actually helping the next generation engage in meaningful ways and participants are reporting that they want to stay engaged more now, than they did before. We met all four of our goals during the first year. 1. Create a support system for younger generations’ involvement. 2. Develop techniques for increasing the involvement of young people. 3. Create inter-generational relationships capable of transferring information and awareness. 4. Creating the Inheriting Hanford website.
It has been a super rewarding year building new relationships and growing this community. Hanford Challenge plans to continue sustaining the project with support from the State of Washington’s Public Participation Grant and hopes to have renewed support from the New Mexico Community Fund.
